As you all have probably heard by now, the following guidelines were ordered by the Local Health Authority for Public and Private Schools from the Dallas County Health and Human Services:
Schools will not offer face-to-face instruction until after September 7, 2020. Schools can only offer virtual/remote/distance learning until 9/8. This means that schools may reopen 9/8 for in-person classes (unless the situation doesn't get better or worsens), and Uplift will continue to offer the three options as outlined in the previous blog post.
All school activities (clubs, sports, fairs, exhibitions, competitions, etc.) will not take place until the school reopens. We think that virtual clubs and metings may still take place, but we are not sure.
Additionally, the following was announced today. As you know, we do things a little differently at North Hills (because our standards are higher if we're being honest). I personally think that the schedule will be the same, but knowing our teachers, they will probably start providing instruction as soon as possible (since they have to cover a lot of content for AP and IB).
Week 1: School will start Monday, August 10, 2020 (and not on 8/11 as was originally planned). I would personally tell everyone not to treat this as a big deal because the first week is for us to get used to this new "normal." Note the following details.
There will be no instruction this week. You will get to use this week to get used to Schoology and to pick up laptops from the school if needed.
You will get to meet your teacher virtually or in-person. As usual, I recommend you do not go in-person (many of our teachers are at-risk as well), but you are free to do as you choose.
Summer Reading Assignment is due at the end of this week.
Week 2: The week of 8/17 will be used to review content from Q4 and catch up. Note the schedule below.
8:00 am-noon: Teacher-Led Instruction
Noon-12:30pm: Lunch
Weeks 3-4: The weeks of 8/24 and 8/31 will also be used to review content and prepare for full days of teacher-led instruction after 9/7. Note the schedule below.
8:00 am-noon: Teacher-Led Instruction
Noon-12:30pm: Lunch
12:30-1:00pm Recess at home/ Brain Break
1:00-3:00 pm Independent Scholar Work
Uplift has also extended the last day of school from May 27, 2021 to May 28, 2021. The updated calendar can be found here.
Uplift is also offering a Parent Back to School Information Series which is detailed in the attached email below.
Finally, the outcomes of our Student Council meeting regarding class events have not changed from the way they were outlined in the previous blog post. Here they are again in case you wanted a reminder:
