WHAP Review Guide

Updated: Apr 3, 2020

IMPORTANT UPDATE: The new exam is a 45-minute DBQ. Please see this blog post for more info: https://unhpclassof2022.wixsite.com/2022/post/2020-whap-exam-format

Hi, everyone! I've created a WHAP Review Guide that is aligned with the College Board Course Description for WHAP for your benefit. On the exam, they use the skills and key concepts prescribed in the course description.

By studying this guide, you can get familiar with the content exactly as it was formulated by AP. For each key concept and learning objective, I've also included the historical theme (e.g. governance, technology and innovation, etc.) and the reasoning process (change/continuity over time, causation, and comparison) so that when you complete the FRQs, you can appropriately formulate an argument. The guide also contains "Illustrative Examples" that I've taken directly from the Course Description, Mr. Rash's PowerPoints, and my own historical knowledge. These are useful because you can use these as evidence in your FRQs. I've updated this review guide to match the updates given by the College Board regarding COVID-19. Consequently, as they provide more updates on April 3, the curriculum (Units 1-6) won't change, but we'll get a better idea of how the FRQ is set up. By the way, I've also included FRQ information, rubrics, and practice directly from the College Board in the guide. I've included SAQs and LEQs since multiple-choice won't be on this year's exam and since DBQs take 60 minutes which is longer than their proposed 45-minute free-response exam. (NO LONGER ACCURATE. This study guide is helpful for themes, ideas, and content. The practice FRQs are no longer relevant because the new exam is a modified DBQ.) The guide also contains the general skills you need for the class. As always, you should study Mr. Rash's materials. This is simply a supplement. It is rather long, so I have included a Table of Contents in the guide. Below, is a condensed table of contents. -- General Historical Skills for WHAP: Pages 3-5 -- Course at a Glance (Units and Topics): Pages 6-8 -- Units 1-5 Full Review with Key Concepts, Learning Objectives, Historical Themes, Reasoning Processes, and Illustrative Examples: Pages 9-40 -- FRQ Information, Rubrics, and Practice for SAQs and LEQs: Pages 42-50 I am attaching a Dropbox and Google Drive link for the Review Guide below. I hope it helps. If you have any questions or notice any errors, please don't hesitate to let me know or comment below. Thanks!
