UNHP High School End of Year Updates + Additional Honors for UNHP HS Scholars

Mme. Pereira sent the email below. It is included here in case you did not receive it.

From the Director’s Desk:

Dear UNHP High School Families,

Happy last day of school!  We could not be prouder of the persistence you and your families have shown over the past 10 weeks during our remote learning.  We thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjusted, like you, to a very new normal.  We are so proud of our students, parents, teachers, and staff for your positivity and flexibility.

We would also like to recognize our UNHP Seniors in the Class of 2020.  Their last semester with us was not what anyone could have imagined. However, the resilience they have displayed speaks volumes of their character.  We look forward to a final celebration with them at our commencement ceremony in August.  As we prepare to send the Class of 2020 off to college, we are also excited to welcome the Class of 2024, our current 8th graders, and their families to UNHP High School next school year!

I know that I speak for the entire UNHP HS team when I say that we consider it a privilege to work with and teach your children. While we don’t yet know what our return will look like in August, please know that we are committed to supporting you and your children and creating the best and safest environment for our school community.  Until then, we wish you a summer filled with rest, reflection, and, most of all, hope.

Sincerely,

Heather Pereira

Director, UNHP High School

End of Year Updates:

  • Graduation for the Class of 2020:  We do not have an update/confirmation yet regarding graduation on August 1, 2020.  We are doing everything we can to plan and organize an in-person event for our seniors and will reach out to seniors/senior parents this summer when we have new/finalized information to share.

Summer Assignments for HS Students

  • EnglishAll scholars in grades 6 - 12 are required to complete summer reading assignments.  These assignments are due on the 1st day of school, August 11, 2020.  Scholars can access the specific reading lists and assignments for their grades on our website under "Student Resources," or by clicking here.  Please direct any questions to the individual English teacher or Ms. Lauren Trebert, our ELA Department Chair for Grades 6 - 12.  (Note from MG: Also available on our blog with details - https://unhpclassof2022.wixsite.com/2022/post/summer-reading-for-juniors-2020-21)

  • Science & Math Assignments:  All [rising] 9th and 10th grade students should complete the attached Math & Science summer assignments.  Again, these assignments will be due on the 1st day of school, August 11, 2020 to their math and science teachers.

Summer School 2020:

  • Credit Recovery:  Next week, academic counselors will be reaching out to parents of students who need to recover credit during Summer School for courses they failed during the school year.  This year, all high school summer school programming will be VIRTUAL and the program will run from June 8 – July 17, with students working at their own pace.

  • ACT Prep:  Uplift will be providing rising 11th and 12th graders with the opportunity to participate in ACT prep this summer for FREE.  Please reference the summer school information sent by the network if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity!

  • Courses for Advancement: The only courses all UNHP students may choose to take for advancement are Government (for rising 11th graders) and Economics (for rising 12th graders) through North Lake College.  We will not be offering advancement course to other grade levels as it is important to our MYP and DP programs that these courses be taken during the school year.

  • Updates in Special Education:  Please find attached the Updates in Special Education notice to parents.
