Updated Grading Policy

Uplift sent out their updated grading policy. Mme. Pereira also sent out an email that nicely organizes the information and answers potential questions. I am combining a few of these resources below to help you understand what the new policy is.

Grade Calculation + Credit for This School Year:

  • Grade for the Course: Average of Semester 1 and Semester 2 Grade

  • Y1 = S1 (50%) + S2 (50%)

    • Semester 1 Grade: As shown in PowerSchool - Weighted Average of Quarter and Quarter 2 (each 40%) and Semester 1 Exam (20%)

    • S1 = Q1 (40%) + Q2 40% + E1 (20%)

    • Semester 2 Grade: Average of Semester 1 and Quarter 3

    • S2 = S1 (50%) + Q3 (50%)

By substituting the Semester 2 Grade equation for the year, we get:

This means that your Year 1 grade is the weighted average of your Semester 1 grade (75%) and Quarter 3 grade (25%).

The Semester 1 and Semester 2 grades using the above calculations will be used for GPA, Class Ranking, and Honor Roll.

Q4 Grades:

Q4 is not counted in the grades, but YOU MUST participate in the Remote Learning to receive credit for the year even though the grade for the year is already calculated per Texas Education Agency (TEA) guidelines. You will not receive credit for the year if you don't earn a "P" for Q4 without summer school or additional tests/work.

Remote Learning assignments will continue to be:

PowerSchool Gradebook:

  • Each class will have 7 formative assignments for Q4 - 1 per Week until Friday, May 15

  • Assignments will be marked with the designations: Collected, Incomplete, Late, or Missing

  • At the end of the quarter, these designations will be changed to numerical grades. If your Q4 grade is 70 or higher, you will earn a P for the quarter. If your Q4 grade is 69 or lower, you will earn a F or the quarter.

Questions:

  • What if I pass for Y1 based on the new calculation, but I don’t earn a passing grade in Q4?  There will be additional steps, either summer school or tests, that you will have to complete in order to earn credit for the year.

  • Can I turn in work late?  Yes. We realize we are working and learning under extraordinary circumstances. If you missed assignments from the first 2 weeks of Remote Learning, please do them and turn them in late.
